The full moon is on the way and organizers of the Traverse Race say the course is set and the race, MountainFest and AdventureSport Bazaar are going ahead next weekend. Race registration forms can be picked up at the Whistler Creek Lodge and Listel Hotel. Final registration and mandatory competitors meetings will take place Thursday night from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Listel Hotel and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pemberton Hotel. The top-secret route has been set and the race will start at 7 a.m. Friday, May 12 when competitors will be bussed to a secret starting point. They should arrive at Meager Creek sometime Sunday, May 14. If all goes well, Pemberton will be abuzz with mountain folks this weekend as Dana Samu, The Traverse event promoter, says individuals who want to race but don't have a team can still register. "There are some people who can't find teammates, but we will try and make teams at registration," Samu says, adding competitors in the enthusiast class will follow a significantly easier route than the pros and anyone who has "done Singing Pass could hack it." Samu says the excitement is not going to be limited to the alpine race as the free MountainFest will offer fun for folks of all ages. People can gather at the Pemberton Airport where a host of activities will be offered. Samu says come one, come all, because the MountainFest is shaping up to be a lot of fun. Some of the MoutainFest events include: Footage of daily race highlights on a jumbo screen. Hourly updates on teams. Outdoor trade show with booths. Adventure-sport demonstrations. Mountain-bike trials demo. Sky-surfing demo. Freestyle in-line skating demo. Climbing trials and demonstrations on a local bluff. Wildwater demo. Guided tours using mountain bikes, kayaks, whitewater rafts, canoes, horses, hiking, climbing, roller blades, paragliding, etc. Helicopter tours. Pick-up roller hockey tournament. Children's' activity centre. Bands and adventure films. Beer garden. Campground. Food, crafts and Native cultural exhibits.
