Peter Chrzanowski is forging on with his dream of holding the second annual Traverse Race next spring.

Peter Chrzanowski is forging on with his dream of holding the second annual Traverse Race next spring. Despite some daunting hurdles and negative feedback in press reports, Chrzanowski, who organized the first Traverse Race May 12 says there will be a second instalment of the race next year and he is combing the globe for sponsors, racers and support. "I'm going after a few more European contacts," says Chrzanowski. "These types of events come from Europe and Europeans seem to have a little more intelligence when it comes to these types of events." Chrzanowski is in the process of editing hours of film footage taken during the event for a 30-minute program on TSN. Because of the personal commitment he has made with his time, Chrzanowski says it would be almost impossible for someone else to come in and organize a similar event. "If someone had the contacts that I do, and was willing to put in the time, this event would probably cost a minimum of $200,000 to put on," he says. The safety and support problems The Traverse organizers ran into this spring may be avoided, Chrzanowski says. He has contacted Bombardier to get some powerful snowmobiles to run support and safety, and Whistler Air is still very committed to the Traverse. The full moon in May will fall on the 9th and Chrzanowski says that should be a good time for The Traverse II, adding the length of the race and possible routes have yet to be determined.
