Despite the size and scope of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, over 30 km of trails in Whistler Olympic Park will be open to the public through the end of January, while adjacent Callaghan Country Wilderness Adventure trails will be open through the entire season, along with Lost Lake Park.
This week Callaghan Country and Whistler Olympic Park have released a dual pass, discounted at 25 per cent because of Games closures and the difficulty in accessing those areas during the Olympics and Paralympics. The early bird price is $169 for adults, $102 for youth aged 13 to 18, $85 for children 6 to 12 and $338 for families (two adults and two children).
Once again a Tri Area pass will be available that includes Lost Lake Park for a total of more than 100 km of cross-country trails. The early bird passes, available starting Oct. 5, are $299 for adults, $179 for youth, $150 for children and $598 for families.
"We've had to make some modifications to our operation due to Games preparations and delivery, but we believe the pass prices this year offer great value and we hope that skiers will join us for what promises to be a fantastic season," said John Aalberg, general manager of Whistler Olympic Park.
Roughly 30 km of Whistler Olympic Park Trails will be open to the public, as well as 42 km of trails operated by Callaghan Country. Lost Lake adds over 30 km of additional trails.
Callaghan Country is making its trails available during the Games for people staying at the lodge, as well as offering accommodation at the lodge to guests watching Olympic events. There will be a shuttle from their lodge to Whistler Olympic Park during Games time.
Whistler Cross Country Connection have given up their space at the day skier lodge, but will have a temporary location set up to offer rentals, lessons, tours and a warming area.
Over 10 km of snowshoe trails will also be open at Whistler Olympic Park.
The tentative opening day is November 21, although the trails will open as soon as the conditions allow. Whistler Olympic Park will then close to the public on January 31 but will reopen on March 1. The final day of skiing at Whistler Olympic Park is April 18, while Callaghan Country will remain open until May 2 if weather and conditions permit.
