Triathlete teams shatter Grand Columbian records

Three Whistler triathlon teams took part in the Grand Columbian Triathlon on the weekend, which included both full Ironman and Half Iron courses.

The Whistler relay teams took part in the Half Iron category, which included a 2 km swim, a 90 km bike and a 21.1 km run. All three teams broke the course record.

Team Left Overs, which included Brandi Higgins (swimming), Bob Deeks (cycling) and Scott Young (running) finished first overall, first in the co-ed category and set the new course record by almost 20 minutes with a combined time of 4:47:20.

Team Strongest Link, an all-female team with Christine Suter (swimming), Marie-Anne Prevost (cycling) and Tracey Pope (running), won the women’s category and finished second overall in the relay with a combined time of 5:00:26.

Team Weakest Link, an all-male team where the participants raced in their worst event, finished first in their category and third overall with a time of 5:00:27 – just one second back of Team Strongest Link. Weakest Link was Paul Nicholas (swimming), David Higgins (cycling) and Paul Suter (running).
