Tyax Heli-skiing is launching a Spring Benefit Barbecue April 12 to raise funds for the Canadian Avalanche Association. For $350 the Tyax Spring Benefit Barbecue includes three glacier runs, professional guide, transfers to and from the heli-pad and a barbecue at the base of the Spearman Glacier. The regular cost of a day’s heli-skiing without barbecues is $425 per person. "Tyax has received regular assistance from the Canadian Avalanche Association over our 10 years of operation and we want to show our support to this vital organization by setting up an annual benefit to raise vital funds," Tyax owner Mike Jakobsson said in a press release. The Canadian Avalanche Association, based in Revelstoke, plays an important role in the day-to-day operations of a heli-ski operator. All major backcountry operations in Western Canada that have to deal with avalanches contribute precise daily snowpack and weather information. These operations include ski areas, B.C. Highways, heli-ski and snowcat operators and Parks Canada. This wide base of professional data helps everyone make more accurate snow stability evaluations and weather decisions. Saturday, April 12 is the scheduled day for the Spring Benefit Barbecue, but April 13 is the back-up day in the event of bad weather. Reservations can be made by calling Tyax at 932-7007.
