The Whistler Ultimate Disc Society season will open on May 15 with five weeks of clinics and a hat series where players’ names are drawn out of a hat each week.
"This year we want to focus on introducing beginner players to the sport through the clinics, and then help get them up to speed for the regular season with the hat series," says WUDS league coordinator Dan Wilson.
"There is competitive play for people who already play ultimate, but we’re always looking for new people."
The clinics will run from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday nights at Myrtle Philip, and the hat series will run from 7 to 9 p.m. until June 12. League play will start on June 19 and will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. until the end of August. Once again the league is hoping to have six teams, and the deadline for registration in June 5.
Drop-in games will also be available on Monday nights starting on May 20, and will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The location is still to be announced.
The cost is $30 for the League and Hat Series, a total of 14 nights. Drop-in games, skills clinics and competitive training for the season will cost $20 for 18 nights. A $50 fee gets you into everything, a total of 32 nights of Ultimate.
If you just want to drop in occasionally, the cost is $5 per night.
Whistler also fields a competitive team, the Whistler Frostbite, that competes in regional, provincial and even national tournaments. They will practice on Monday nights alongside the drop-in game.
The Frostbite players will compete in their first tournament this weekend in Vancouver.
To sign up for the clinics, hat series or league, stop by Myrtle Philip on opening night, May 15. New players are reminded to bring plastic-cleated shoes and two tee-shirts, one light and one dark, to every Ultimate event.
