Use phone and Web to check road closures

The Ministry of Transportation is encouraging Sea to Sky drivers to call the toll free info line or log on to the Web site before hitting the highway these days.

Work has begun on the seven kilometre stretch of highway north of Squamish at Culliton Creek. As such there will be three hours during each day when the highway between Whistler and Squamish is closed.

From Monday to Thursday motorists should expect road closures between 9 and 10 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. and 3 and 4 p.m.

"These time are the times motorists should plan on not being on the highway if they are making a trip," said Jeff Knight, spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation.

The closures will give road workers time to blast and remove rock on the narrow stretch of highway. The work will ultimately widen the highway in that area.

There were short delays during the last week of April for surveying in preparation of the rock blasting set to take place in May.

In order to plan in advance call the toll-free project information line at 1-866-986-8675 or log on to www.gov.bc.ca/tran/

The phone line is getting between 20 and 30 calls per day right now.
