This Easter weekend there will be another hunt, in addition to the annual search for eggs left by the Easter Bunny.
The annual spring used book sale has been moved up this year, from the May 24 long weekend to the Easter weekend, April 10.
Part of the reason for having the sale earlier this year is to try and reach seasonal employees who may be leaving the valley at the end of the winter. The sale offers an opportunity for people to donate books, videos and magazines that they may not want to pack up and move.
"It is a perfect opportunity for those who are spring cleaning or leaving town to recycle their books so others may enjoy them," says organizer Jane Reid.
Donation boxes have been in place for the last week or so at Nesters Market, TD Canada Trust Marketplace, Myrtle Philip Community School, Whistler Secondary, and Spring Creek Community School.
Of the funds raised, two-thirds will go toward the library at Spring Creek Community School, and one-third towards the library at Whistler Secondary.
Past sales have made a big difference to these libraries already, Reid says, but it takes years to build up a large collection.
Reid and her fellow organizers are looking for all types of books: fiction, non-fiction, soft or hardcover, and any subject. Any donated books which are suitable for the school libraries will not be sold but added directly to the appropriate school’s collections.
