Usual suspects rounded up for Jail ’n’ Bail

If Whistler-Blackcomb’s Director of Finance can raise $5,000 at Monday’s Jail ’n’ Bail, he will spend a night in a real Whistler jail cell.

Ken Derpak said he would sleep at the local RCMP detachment if he can round up the cash.

He is just one of the usual suspects who will be participating in Whistler-Blackcomb’s third annual Jail ’n’ Bail, where participants are tossed into a GLC jail cell and held captive until they are bailed out.

The event will raise money for the Lion’s Society 24-Hour Relay, a fundraising race which helps B.C. kids with disabilities attend summer camp. The 24-Hour Relay for the Kids has raised over $20 million to date. Whistler-Blackcomb focuses its efforts on Camp Squamish, at the foot of Mount Garibaldi.

Derpak will be joined by Feet Banks, Sushi Village waiter of the year, local filmmaker and the Pique’s own movie columnist, as well as John Nadeau, manager of the North Shore Credit Union, Mike Wintemute, general manager of Windemere Real Estate, Whistler-Blackomb’s Tom Prochazka, local pro skier Chris Winter and many others.

A live auction will keep the party rolling with goods and services donated from local businesses. The Rutherford Creek Collective will be performing and Chili Thom will be spinning.

To make a donation, go to www.24hourrelay.com and follow the Donate Now links to support the Intrawest team.

Or support the team at the Jail ’n’ Bail on Monday, June 14 at 7 p.m. at the GLC. Tickets are $15 and are available at The Cabin at Base II or by calling the Whistler-Blackcomb Employee Experience at 604-938-7557.
