Vail buys Jackson properties Vail Resorts took its first step outside Colorado this week when it announced plans to purchase the Grand Teton Lodge Co. for an estimated $50 million. Grand Teton Lodge Co., which was owned by CSX Corporation, operates three properties in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, near the Jackson Hole ski area, and the Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club. As well, the purchase includes 30 acres of undeveloped land in the Jackson area. The deal is expected to close over the next six months. The three properties — the Jenny Lake Lodge, Jackson Lake Lodge, and Colter Bay Village — and the golf and tennis club are primarily summer businesses. Vail Resorts has been a big player in the resort consolidation mania which has hit the ski industry in recent years, acquiring Breckenridge and Keystone two years ago. Vail Resorts also owns Vail and Beaver Creek. There have been rumblings that Vail Resorts may try to add the Jackson Hole ski area to its holdings but the company denied it had plans to purchase the resort. Vail has also been linked to Crested Butte and Telluride resorts in Colorado.
