Valley Trail run goes off-pavement

New tack for annual race

By Andrew Mitchell

The 16 th Annual Valley Trail Run is taking a slightly different approach this year, setting the course entirely on gravel trails in Lost Lake Park — most of them designated as Valley Trail by the municipality, but runners doing 10 km will no longer finish with a lap of the Whistler Golf Course.

The event takes place on Sunday, May 27 — the day after the Kids of Steel Triathon and Try a Tri — and starts and finishes at Rebagliati Park.

The event will once again be open to walkers as well as runners, and registration is available online at www.whistlervalleytrailrun.com . Day of race entries will also be accepted between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. at the Hilton Whistler Resort and Spa. The fee is $30 for individuals and $45 for one adult and several children 18 and under.

The main race gets underway at 9 a.m., followed by the annual Teddy Bear Trot race for kids under 10 at 10:30 a.m. All participants get a bib (number one), and a prize for participating.
