A Vancouver man is dead after succumbing to injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash near Duffey Lake, police confirmed. At about 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, Pemberton RCMP responded to a report of a single-vehicle incident on Highway 99.
Police said the 42-year-old driver appears to have veered right off the roadway before coming to a stop in a grassy area. Investigators believe speed was a factor in the crash, police said.
Despite the efforts of bystanders, including an emergency doctor who was on the scene, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries, police said.
Another accident involving a motorcycle—this one non-fatal—occurred at about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28 near Callaghan Creek. Police said a 66-year-old Port Coquitlam man in a grey Subaru heading southbound on Highway 99 attempted a U-turn when a motorcyclist collided with the car, despite swerving to avoid it. The crash launched the 38-year-old Squamish man from his motorcycle, causing non-life threatening injuries, police said. He was transported to hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Subaru, and its passengers, were not injured in the accident.

Whistler police recover over $10,000 in stolen goods following arrest
Whistler RCMP has recovered thousands of dollars worth of stolen items from a pair of suspects who were arrested in connection with a series of thefts over the past several weeks, police confirmed. At about 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 3, officers on patrol in the 4200 block of Gateway Drive observed a male and female enter the Blackcomb Lodge. The pair matched the description of suspects wanted in connection with a number of thefts from parked vehicles in recent weeks.
"Over the course of a number of weeks the Whistler RCMP have noted an increase in thefts from vehicles parked in and around the community," a Whistler RCMP release read. "Specifically, the thefts were occurring in underground parkades where owners return to their vehicles to find that a window has been smashed (and) items within have been stolen."
The suspects, a 29-year-old North Vancouver man and a 26-year-old West Vancouver woman, were subsequently arrested. Police are recommending charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, theft over $5,000, mischief, and breach of probation.
Police seized over $10,000 in stolen goods, along with drug paraphernalia and bear spray, according to the RCMP.
Police said they have identified "many of the rightful property owners," but if anyone believes they are still missing stolen items, they should contact the Whistler RCMP.
Whistler driver collides with parked cars, rolls down embankment
A Whistler man was injured last week after the vehicle he was driving collided with two parked cars and slid down an embankment, police said.
At about midnight on Friday, Aug. 31, Whistler RCMP responded to a three-vehicle incident in the 5000 block of Alta Lake Road, also known as the Nita Lake lookout. The investigation revealed that a 29-year-old driver of a 2008 Subaru struck two occupied parked cars before flipping and rolling down a 30- to 50-foot (nine- to 15-metre) embankment, according to police.
All the individuals involved were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The driver of the Subaru is currently under investigation, and police are asking for any potential witnesses that have not come forward to reach out to the Whistler RCMP.
