Aspiring action filmmakers and general camera-happy types can look forward to June’s first annual Video Jamboree.
Organizer Brian Hockenstein of the UnderExposed Media Group confirmed the mini-film festival will take place during the week of June 20 at the Longhorn Saloon with video submissions due by Saturday, June 18. The Video Jamboree was originally planned for late March, but was postponed due to a wealth of seasonal activity that prohibited many locals from contributing.
The Jamboree is seeking video contributions around five minutes in length based on a theme of mountain activity. Films will be screened at the Longhorn event with a panel of judges selecting the top three.
Hockenstein has said he hopes Jamboree participants will go beyond standard ski and snowboard video fare.
"We are hoping that people will use their creativity and imagination a bit and not just hand in five minutes of tricks and music," he has said.
The event will include a skateboard mini-ramp on the Longhorn patio, live bands and prize giveaways, and will serve as a fundraiser for the community skateboard park currently under construction in the underground parkade at Franz’s Trail in Creekside.
A filmmaker himself and co-founder of 514 Video Distribution, Hockenstein said he got the idea for the Jamboree from a similar event held annually in Europe.
