Faint-hearted, freaked-out or just plain exhausted attendees of the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival can be rest assured there will be lighter alternatives to the expert-only activities on display during the festival, April 11-20.
In fact there’s going to be a plethora of good, clean family fun and relaxing distractions on offer in the village every single day of the big event. There’ll be a pooch parade and dog demos, mountain bike tricks, rock climbing, video games galore, crazy kiddie capers plus pampering professionals on hand to help you feel good. And the best part is? It’s all free and in the heart of Whistler Village.
Whistler DogFest, Town Plaza, April 19 & 20, 1 to 5 p.m.
The Whistler DogFest, presented by the Puppy Zone, includes demonstrations, competitions and display booths. The Dog Parade will be held April 19 at 3 p.m. Watch more than 200 dogs and their owners wag their way through the village vying for the Best Dressed Dog prize and an Owner-Dog Look-Alike award. Making a special appearance on both days will be the Washington State Flying Disc Dog Team and the Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association.Adventure Village, Village Common (outside Earls), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
The Adventure Village will have an outdoor climbing wall reaching over 20 feet in height, with trained staff on standby to help you get a head-start. Members from the Norco Team will perform various demos for the Mountain Bike Trials. Making guest appearances will be some of the world’s top mountain bike riders including Cedric Gracia, Steve Peat, Anne-Caroline Chausson, Richie Schley and Andrew Shandro. Also in Adventure Village will be the B.C. Dairy Foundation, hosting Mooing Contests and Cow Milk-Offs where teams will compete to see who can milk the fastest.Kidzone, Town Plaza, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Mountain FM presents this kids’ corner , packed with jugglers, balloon artists, musicians and puppeteers, a human gyroscope, a bouldering wall and mini golf. There will be an Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday and an Earth Day Interactive Tent throughout the week featuring an interactive world map, a kid’s activity table, worm composters and various eco-displays. The tent will be staffed by WAVE, AWARE, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District and Whistler. It’s Our Nature.Nintendo For*Play Suite, Mountain Square, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
