Viva Las Vegas overindulgence 101

There are a number of reasons Las Vegas is known as Sin City, many of which become startlingly obvious within the first 24 hours.

There are a number of reasons Las Vegas is known as Sin City, many of which become startlingly obvious within the first 24 hours. But when holidaying in this Disneyland for Adults, nothing is more sinful than the sheer volume of food inevitably consumed while there. During my recent trip to Vegas, I ate enough to see me through to Christmas Dinner ... 2019! Proving once and for all that breakfast, lunch and dinner really is for beginners.

I took it upon myself to test out the top-rated spots in town—all in the name of investigative journalism of course. After eating (and eating, and eating) my way from North to South of The Strip, I can confirm the one thing Vegas is not short of is options. OpenTable tells me there are 2,212 local restaurants, which might seem a bit excessive, but that's Vegas in a nutshell, really. The protruding pouch I returned to Whistler with is evidence that I am a worthy informant, more than capable of providing a tried-and-tested summary of the very best of the bunch.

The all rounder: wicked spoon at the cosmopolitan

Buffets are the way to go when in Vegas with larger-than-life dinner deals being a commonplace offering. This means if Going on Holiday = Eating All of the Food (like it does with me), then trying to narrow down your dining options can prove to be fairly time consuming and stressful. I had heard big things about Wicked Spoon, which is located in The Cosmopolitan, one of the newer hotels on The Strip. While this place boasts all of the typical buffet staples, the restaurant has received rave reviews for its innovative miniature plates including its bone marrow in kimchee sauce and the vanilla cream infused beetroot salad. This restaurant is perfect for the breakfast/brunch crowd or the late lunch/dinner crew, and I know this because over the course of five days I ate here twice, and I almost never double dip.

DINNER AND A SHOW: HEART ATTACK GRILL: FREMONT STREET

It is well worth venturing downtown to experience Fremont Street and the original Vegas Strip, home to the legendary Binions and Golden Nugget casinos. I'd recommend wrapping up a trip to Fremont Street by stopping off at Heart Attack Grill, and I should emphasize the importance of making this your final stop, because you will need a forklift to carry you back to your hotel after dining here. The concept behind this world-famous restaurant is as smart as it is hilarious and revolves primarily around rewarding obesity and punishing anyone incapable of finishing their enormous plates of carbohydrates. There is a running heart attack theme throughout HAG, the menu is ranked according to the level of heart surgery one will require after consuming one of the burgers and those weighing 350 lbs or more eat for free! While this place is not for the faint hearted, if you're looking for dinner and a show, Heart Attack Grill is an absolute must when in Downtown Vegas.

TREAT YO'SELF: GORDON RAMSAY'S HELL'S KITCHEN:,CAESARS PALACE

We went all out for our final evening in Las Vegas, making reservations at the brand spanking new Hell's Kitchen at Caesars Palace. For a pretty reasonable US$72 we were treated to the trademark Hell's Kitchen prix fixe three-course menu. As fans of the show will know, Ramsay insists on a simplistic but sublime menu comprised of pan-seared scallops, a melt-in-your mouth Beef Wellington and deliciously indulgent British favourite, sticky toffee pudding; all of which are cooked to utter perfection. The combination of feeling like you are on the set of an iconic TV show paired with the stunning views of Caesars Palace and The Strip, makes this an awesome spot to sample some of the finest food in Sin City.
