The Village of Pemberton’s June 22 meeting saw council receive notice from Ida Chong, provincial minister of community services, that Pemberton would be receiving $304,922 as part of the province’s Small Community Grants program.
Chong said in a letter to Sturdy and council that Small Community Grants would increase this year by $6 million to $43.5 million.
Mayor Jordan Sturdy did not say what the money would be used for, but said the money has already been considered in the VOP’s budgeting process.
“We always knew that it was going to be increased,” he said.
Council also received notice of a development proposal for a mixed-use building complex at 7380 Crabapple Court. The developer, Vancouver-based William R. Rhone, expects to build 38 housing units and two live/work units within a five-building village type complex with access from Crabapple Court and Arbutus Street.
The proposal has now been referred to the VOP’s Advisory Design Review committee and a planning technician hopes to have it back to council for consideration at the July 8 council meeting.
The July 8 meeting was originally scheduled for 7 p.m., but has now been moved to 8 a.m. that morning to make way for a Boundary Extension Public Meeting that night.
