W1 opening Vancouver office

Company wants to reach broader market

Whistler’s largest event marketing company, W1, has announced a major expansion with the opening of a Vancouver office, commencing July 2006.

The expansion into the Vancouver market moves W1 closer to the corporate sponsorship, advertising, marketing and media industries. The expansion also positions the company to develop new event concepts and services for its clients in a broader market. Over 90 per cent of W1’s current clients have offices in Vancouver.

W1 will retain its Whistler office and continue to develop and produce Whistler’s flagship event, the Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival. The festival, entering its 11th year, has signed a long-term agreement with Telus to be the title sponsor of the property through the year 2012.

"This is a natural evolution for the company," said W1 president Doug Perry. "For years, W1’s clients have encouraged us to extend our creative, management and production services into the broader regional and national marketplace. The expansion into Vancouver will not only strengthen the Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival in Whistler, but open the door for some exciting new event marketing concepts."

W1’s Vancouver office will focus on three areas of business: new event concepts; corporate marketing activation; and creative/design.

The Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival is the largest annual winter sports and music festival in North America. It includes the largest free outdoor concert series in Canada and is credited with driving more than $26 million in economic impact annually to the B.C. economy.
