Tri-City Americans goalie Beck Warm only got into one of four games against the Kelowna Rockets in their first-round Western Hockey League playoff series.
But it was a key cameo as the 18-year-old Whistlerite helped stabilize the Americans in Game 2 of their Western Conference series on March 24.
In a Wild West shootout that saw the wild-card Americans fall behind 3-0 just three minutes into the game, rally for a 4-3 lead and eventually trail 6-5, Warm stepped in to relieve starter Patrick Dea and lift Tri-City to a 9-7 win and a 2-0 series lead. The Americans then won both home games in Kennewick, Wash. to sweep a high-powered Kelowna club in four straight.
Tri-City will play the Victoria Royals, who needed the full seven games to defeat the Vancouver Giants. The series will begin Friday in Victoria.
Melamed 10th in Colombia
Whistler racer Jesse Melamed continued to shine in Enduro World Series (EWS) action.
The 26-year-old posted a 10th-place finish at the second race of the season in Manizales, Colombia.
He put up the strong result in spite of a number of tumbles and spills over two days on course.
"When I wasn't on the ground or running down the stage I rode really well! Another weekend of 'almost' so I am happy to finish 10th!" Melamed posted to his Instagram on April 2.
Melamed was in the hunt with a number of other riders, with only 12 seconds between him and fifth, so the margin between an even higher finish wasn't massive.
Combined with a fifth-place finish at the first EWS event of the season in Chile, Melamed now sits in fourth in the overall standings with 730 points. Leader Sam Hill of Australia has a perfect 1,000 points by virtue of winning the first two races.
Meanwhile, French rider and Whistler resident Yoann Barelli was 17th. Combined with a 16th-place showing in Chile, he now sits 15th in the overall standings.

Freeride World Tour wraps
Pemberton skier Logan Pehota missed the final two Freeride World Tour competitions because of injury, but still had a strong finish in the overall standings.
After the fifth and final event in Verbier, Switzerland, Pehota finished his third season on tour in fifth place on the strength of two season-opening standout performances at Kicking Horse Resort, a win followed by a fourth-place showing.
Sweden's Kristofer Turdell won the men's overall crown, while Italy's Arianna Tricomi was the women's champion. In the snowboard events, Austrians Thomas Feurstein and Manuela Mandl won the men's and women's titles, respectively.
