Burning Whistler's waste rather than burying it could be the way of the future.
At least, that's what council will hear about at today's evening meeting when it considers a presentation from B.C.-based City Centre Homes.
The company owns a residentially zoned parcel of land on the east side of the highway at the entrance to Whistler Olympic Park in the Callaghan Valley.
It would like council to consider rezoning that 16-acre land to an industrial use to build a Thermal Oxidation Process System (TOPS) that would burn Whistler's waste.
In addition to the waste facility, the operators would also like to lease land for a greenhouse and aquaponics facility, which would operate off the energy produced by the waste system. The facility would produce food like fish, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.

Council will also consider moving ahead with several capital projects such as the Cheakamus Crossing park, which was temporarily taken out of this year's budget in an attempt to save money.
