WB bullish heading into spring

Despite rumours to the contrary, Whistler Blackcomb will be going strong heading into the spring season, boosted by almost a metre of snowfall in the past week and more snow on the way. After a slow season, winter has finally arrived.

The Creekside Gondola will close a week early this year, with its last day of operations on Sunday, April 19. Whistler Mountain will be open for operations until the last day of the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival, April 26.

Blackcomb Mountain will continue to be open through May 18, when operations will move back to Whistler Mountain to as late as June 14, snowpack permitting, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.  Blackcomb will reopen on June 20 for glacier skiing.

Whistler Mountain will also be open for sightseeing after May 16. The Peak 2 Peak Gondola will close for maintenance on April 27, but will reopen for sightseeing on both mountains on June 6.

Looking ahead, the Whistler Mountain Bike Park is tentatively schedule to open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily on May 16, snowpack permitting. Extended Play will start on June 20, when the park will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Sept. 6.

While the schedule is a little different than past years, skiing and snowboading could be extended a week compared to past seasons. The decision to move spring skiing between Blackcomb and Whistler is the result of lift maintenance and other work.

On Blackcomb, that includes line maintenance on the Wizard Express, Solar Coaster Express and 7 th Heaven Express, and stockpiling snow for glacier camps and summer operations on Horstman and Showcase T-bars.

On Whistler, that includes line maintenance on the Whistler Village Gondola and Fitzsimmons Express, and maintenance on the Peak 2 Peak.
