Joining forces with five top American ski resorts will give Whistler Blackcomb a louder voice when it comes to speaking out about climate change.

Together they are called The Mountain Collective, an alliance of half a dozen independent mountain resorts that includes Aspen, Jackson Hole and Squaw Valley, who offer a 12-day pass that allows two days skiing at each of the six resorts, among other things.

But the pass isn't the only perk.

This month, The Mountain Collective announced a new partnership with Protect Our Winters, a non-profit organization founded by pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones with an aim to get the winter sports community leading the fight against climate change.

That message is right up Whistler Blackcomb's alley, in the wake of the warmest decade on record.

"Being part of The Mountain Collective and advocating for Protect Our Winters means our voices will be unified and more powerful when it comes to promoting meaningful climate change awareness," said Stuart Rempel, Whistler Blackcomb's senior vice president, marketing & sales. "Environmental stewardship is part of Whistler Blackcomb's corporate culture and it is our hope that cross-marketing initiatives and further education will help drive environmentally sustainable practices in the snow sports industry."

The partnership will include ongoing advocacy as well as education and community outreach, and "to improve value for skiers and riders who want to visit multiple world-class resorts in a season."

The Mountain Collective Pass went back on sale Aug. 13 at $379 (USD) for the 12 days as well as 50 per cent off all additional days with no blackout dates.
