Ready, set, lights! Whistlerites can join in a simultaneous Christmas lighting event to kick off the Hongkong Bank Whistler Ski Classic, Thursday, Dec. 5. At 6 p.m. sharp, World Cup festival organizers hope everyone — villagers and retailers alike — will switch on their outdoor light displays. Mountain FM radio will be co-ordinating the count-down to lights on. In support of the event, Home Hardware is offering a discount off Christmas lighting and decorating packages, with a portion of the proceeds going to the World Cup Forest tree planting project. Following the Light the Lights program, at 6:15 p.m., one and all are invited to gather outside the conference centre to decorate the trees. Bring your quirkiest or favourite tree decorations. Be traditional or be unusual. There'll be hot chocolate on hand to warm the tummy and Willie Whistler to warm the hearts of children. Nesters Market is sponsoring a snowman making contest at the same place and time. Frosty the Newshound says Nesters is supplying carrots for the traditional snowman nose.
