Family art workshops on offer May 25 and 26
This year the Whistler Community Arts Council celebrates the 20 th anniversary of the Whistler Children’s Art Festival, held at Myrtle Philip Community School.
The festival offers hands-on art workshops for school children by professional artists and craftspeople.
On Sunday, the Bill Hilly Band performs their mix of Celtic, Caribbean, and mariachi music from their first self-titled CD. Their acoustic medleys, banjo solos and fiddle delights keep all the young ones moving through the day.
This year’s theme is "Celebrate Family," which gives children and their families a chance to explore opportunities in art together.
New family workshops include Family Platter, Soap Stone, Patio Stone, Dream Catchers, Floral Crown (for mothers and daughters), and the Family Orchestra of Inventions.
Family workshops ranges between $5 and $20, depending on the costs of the materials involved. The soapstone workshop costs $10, and the children’s workshops cost $5 per hour.
For the wee ones ages 3 to 6, the Circus Extravaganza is on offer. Parents can bring their children on a drop-in basis to participate in any of the seven different workshops, with activities at their own pace. The cost is $7 per day per child, or $10 for both days per child.
Pre-registration takes place at the WCAC office at Maurice Young Millennium Place on May 20 and 21 (in person or by phone), or during the festival anytime after 8 a.m. An earlier registration session was held May 5 at Myrtle Philip school.
