To feed people, not bears, participate in Whistler Community Service Society’s (WCSS) campaign to beef up the food bank.

Every person who brings in three cans of food to the WCSS Food Bank during the month of September will get five dollars to spend at the WCSS Re-Use-It Centre.

The goal of the program is to build up food bank reserves in preparation for the slower fall months when many seasonal workers arrive in town.

“It is sometimes an unrecognized fact that in a community as wealthy as Whistler, there are still people suffering from hunger,” said Lorna van Staaten, manager of the WCSS Re-Use-It Centre.

“The Food Bank is one of our most fundamental programs, and one that every year the WCSS Re-Use-It Centre attempts to give some extra support,” she said.

Bring your cans of food to the Re-Use-It Center between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. any day of the week starting Sept. 1. Cash donations are also gratefully accepted, and the WCSS office will issue tax receipts.

The WCSS RE-Use-It Centre is located at 1003 Lynham Road in Function Junction.
