Wentzel leads team at Delta meet

The Whistler Gymnastics club faced its toughest competition and judging of the year at the Delta Invitational this past weekend, but athletes came through with medals, ribbons and personal bests.

The Whistler Gymnastics club faced its toughest competition and judging of the year at the Delta Invitational this past weekend, but athletes came through with medals, ribbons and personal bests.

In Provincial Level 2 Tyro Flight 2: Keeley Wentzel placed first all around out of 16 competitors with a gold medal on bars, a bronze on floor, a bronze on beam and a fifth place result on vault.

In fifth all around was Cambria Willis with a gold medal on floor, and top-10 results on the other apparatus. Jessie Budge was ninth, placing seventh on beam; Christina Saldat was 11 th with a fifth on bars; Carly Mann was 12 th with a bronze on the floor; Charlotte Mahoney was 14 th with an eighth place on vault; and Ellie Krasny - in her first meet since healing an ankle injury, was 16 th .

In Provincial Tyro Flight 1: Ali Marriott was the top Whistler gymnast in seventh all around, winning a bronze medal on bars.

In Provincial 2 Argo and Open: Jasmin Budge was sixth all around, tying for fourth on beam and placing sixth on vault and seventh on bars. Meg Halliwell was 11 th with a seventh place result on beam and Desirae Smith was 13 th with an eighth place result on floor.

In Provincial Level 2 Novice: Maye Akama placed ninth all around with a sixth place finish on the beam and ribbons in all the events. Katrina Underhill had her best results on vault and beam.

In Provincial 3 Open, the highest level Whistler athletes compete at, Rebecca Flynn placed second all around with silver medals on bars and floor and fifth place results on vault and beam. Nicola Halliwell was sixth, with silver medals on vault and floor and a fifth place result on bars.

In Provincial Level 1 Tyro Flight 2: Jamie Gormley was ninth all around, with eighth place finishes on bars and beam. Kayley Ogilvie-Turner was one spot back, with a seventh place result on beam. Kalea Ranger was 12 th .

In Provincial Level 1 Argo: Caleigh Lamont and Hannah Peatfield tied for seventh on vault. Martina Gershon and Caitlin MacConnachie also had their best results on the vault.

The club has one meet remaining this season, from May 22-24 in Kelowna.
