Westin launches pedi cab fleet

In reply to the growing fleets of vans and tourist buses ferrying guests around the village the Westin Resort and Spa has embraced a green form of transportation for its guests this summer.

This week the Westin announced a fleet of Pedi cabs, which will takes guests anywhere in the village by pedal power.

"We are constantly exploring ways to minimize our overall carbon footprint and it just made sense to invest in an initiative like this one, particularly in such a pristine mountain destination like our," said director of operations Bryce Beatty.

"Not only is the transportation mode somewhat unique in this part of the world, our hope is that pedi cabs are a visual reminder to guests, associates and the Whistler community that we are committed to reducing greenhouse gases."

According to the Westin, the pedi cab concept is only one of a dozen green programs that have been embraced by the hotel in recent years, including a carbon offset program.

The three-wheeled cabs can be used to take guests to the golf course, or shopping in the Upper Village. They have also introduced one and two hour narrated tours of the village, dinner packages and picnic lunches at Lost Lake.
