Wheels in Motion money stays here

Funds will be used to augment accessibility

This past summer Whistler hosted the fourth annual Rick Hansen Wheels In Motion fundraiser, one of many events held across Canada to raise money for spinal cord research and improving the lives of people with spinal cord injuries.

Half of all money raised stays in the community to fund recreation, accessibility and other initiatives.

Last month it was announced that Whistler’s event, presented by Scotiabank and organized by Tony Jovanovic, raised $2,947 towards accessibility initiatives. This year that money will go to purchase signage indicating the location of ramps, elevators and accessible washrooms in public buildings in Whistler Village. Any additional funding will come from the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s Village Enhancement Fund.

The fifth annual Wheels In Motion event will take place on Sunday, June 10.
