Where Halloween lives

Tapley’s Farm once again the place for Trick-or-Treaters

The sun sets over Easy Street, blanketing the neighbourhood in darkness. Somewhere a wolf howls (or possibly a Labrador retriever), as glowing pumpkins eerily light the way for hordes of invading witches and wizards, vampires and ghosts, and assorted characters out of Saturday morning cartoons.

This is the 22 nd annual Halloween celebration for Tapley’s Farm, inviting kids of all ages to trick or treat in a fun and safe way while the whole neighbourhood puts on its scariest face. Roughly 600 children are expected to take part, knocking on doors and taking in the displays put on by the neighbourhood’s more ambitious houses.

That kind of invasion takes a lot of treats to placate, and as usual residents are asking parents to make donations if they plan on bringing their kids by this year. You can make donations at Myrtle Philip school, Spring Creek school, Whistler Children’s Centre, Spring Creek Children’s Centre, and at 6448 Toad Hollow in Tapley’s.

The neighbourhood will be closed to traffic and there is no parking on Lorimer Road, but the Whistler And Valley Express will again be running their Park and Spook buses from the Marketplace from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with complimentary parking at Marketplace.

Look for the Shaw Pumpkin Patrol and the Shaw Bear at the entrance to Tapley’s, which is the designated meeting place for parents and children that get separated. Kids will also get a head-start on their trick-or-treating.

The Trick or Treat Extravaganza runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., followed by a fireworks display on the lower fields at Myrtle Philip, sponsored by Nesters and hosted by Whistler Fire Services.
