Whistler-Blackcomb’s top man promoted

Brownlie now top COO for Intrawest’s Canadian mountain resorts

Dave Brownlie, the man in charge of Whistler-Blackcomb, now has responsibility for all of Intrawest’s Canadian mountain resorts.

Intrawest announced the appointment of Brownlie as Chief Operating Officer, Intrawest Mountain Resorts, Canada late Wednesday. His new responsibilities will include Blue Mountain in Ontario and Tremblant in Quebec, in addition to his current portfolio, which includes Panorama Resort, Whistler Heli-skiing and Whistler-Blackcomb.

As well, Brownlie will oversee the central sales and marketing functions that support the operating divisions across the company.

He joined Blackcomb in 1989 as Director of Finance.

Brownlie’s appointment is one of three new executive management team appointments in the Intrawest Mountain Resorts Division announced Wednesday. The new executive structure “will serve to better align the structure with the strategic direction and growth objectives of the Intrawest Mountain Resorts Division,” according to a release.

David Barry has been appointed Chief Operating Officer, Intrawest Mountain Resorts, United States/Helicopter Operations. Barry will be responsible for all of Intrawest’s resorts in the United States. These currently include Copper Mountain, Winter Park, Stratton, Snowshoe and Mountain Creek. In December 2006, Intrawest announced an agreement to acquire Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation in Colorado. Upon the successful completion of the transaction, Intrawest's operations at Steamboat will be included in Barry's area of responsibility. In addition, Barry will continue to oversee Canadian Mountain Holidays and Alpine Helicopters.

The third appointment, which was made in November but just announced this week, was the promotion of Kevin Smith to Chief Financial Officer, Intrawest Mountain Resorts. Smith Joined Intrawest in 1999 and most recently served as vice president of finance.

All three positions will report directly to Hugh Smythe, President, Intrawest Mountain Resorts.

“Dave, David and Kevin are all results-oriented leaders who have consistently demonstrated their ability to deliver revenue growth in our mountain resorts and provide exceptional value for our customers and our homeowners,” Smythe said in a release. “With these changes, these leaders are well positioned to maintain the necessary focus on achieving strong financial results and the strategic direction of the Mountain Resorts Division. Their leadership, guidance and expertise will continue to be valuable assets as we embark on a new era of growth and expansion for Intrawest.”
