Whistler Bungee jumps Saturday

The bridge over the Cheakamus River is up and as of Aug. 12, Whistler Bungee was sending people over the edge.

The bridge over the Cheakamus River is up and as of Aug. 12, Whistler Bungee was sending people over the edge.

Sixteen staff members from Buffalo Bill’s were given the opportunity to be the first members of the public to try the jump, which is approximately 50 metres in height.

Whistler Bungee is using a next generation bungee cord that can stretch four times its length. Typical cords only stretch about three times their length. The result is a smoother jump and no jerk when you hit bottom and start to travel back up.

The Grand Opening takes place this Saturday, Aug. 17 with an opening day special – two jumps and a T-shirt for $125. The regular price is $90 for the first jump and $40 for each subsequent jump.

Whistler Bungee will start to provide hourly shuttles from Whistler to the jump site, approximately 12 km south of the village and 3 km down the Cal-Cheak turn off. The shuttle leaves from the Wild Willies store across from the bus and taxi loop. The cost is $5 per person.

There is also parking near the site on the Cal-Cheak road if you don’t want to take the shuttle.

The six-foot wide bridge is open to the public, even while people are jumping.
