Whistler council aids 2010 Bid Corporation

Whistler Council will contribute $250,000 to the 2010 Bid Corporation to support programs undertaken in the community. The money will help fund the community consultation program and the bid office in Whistler, which has a $475,000 operating budget.

The money comes from hotel tax revenue and was set aside in the capital budget to support just such events.

Hotel tax revenue can only be used to fund tourism-related promotions, projects and programs.

When it passed the resolution council reiterated that no general property tax revenue would be spent on the Games.

Whistler has also dedicated one staff member to the bid corporation.

The City of Vancouver and Tourism Vancouver have also contributed significant monies to the bid corp. totalling $1.4 million.

The City Of Richmond and Tourism Richmond have contributed $650,000.
