The Whistler Film Festival (WFF) is launching a free outdoor family film series this summer.
Four films will be screened at the base of Whistler Mountain in Creekside each Wednesday from July 19 to Aug. 9 — Where the Wild Things Are (July 19), The Castle (July 26), Wayne's World (Aug. 2), and E.T. the Extra-terrestrial (Aug. 9).
Movies start at 8 p.m.
There will be room for those attending to use lawn chairs or blankets, food and beverages will be available for sale on site and Dusty's Bar & BBQ will offer family specials.
WFF Summer Cinema Series is sponsored by Creekside Village, Creekside Dental, Creekside Market, Dusty's Bar and BBQ, Macdonald Realty, Scotiabank and Whistler Blackcomb.

Comedy Quickies contest opens
Comedy Quickies seeks the best funny writing in Canada to kick-off the 2017 Whistler Writers Festival.
Pieces must be shorter than five minutes and can take the form of a sketch, stand-up routine, monologue, or original song.
Those selected will see their work performed at the festival on Thursday, Oct. 12.
Submissions can be in writing, by audio or by video and are due by Aug. 15. Finalists will be selected by Sept. 1.

WWS, library named official Cornucopia charities
Cornucopia, the 11-day annual food and drink festival that takes place in Whistler each November, has named Whistler Public Library and The Whistler Writing Society as its joint 2017 charity recipients.
Through various fundraising events that take place during the festival, an average of $35,000 per year is raised for community initiatives. To date, Cornucopia has raised $500,000 for Whistler programs.

Audain Art Museum architectural award
Whistler's Audain Art Museum has been honoured as one of the winners of the 2017 AZ Awards, presented by Azure Magazine.
The award recognizes innovative international projects representing contemporary architectural design from around the world.
One of 20 winners in the seventh annual competition, it was one of 813 entries from 41 countries. The Audain took home the prize for Best Architecture over 1,000 Square Metres.
The museum, which opened in March 2015, was designed by Patkau Architects in Vancouver.
