Whistler gardeners bloom

The first Whistler In Bloom gardening contest produced 10 champions, forged new relationships and produced numerous gardening ideas.

The contest wrapped up with judging on July 24 and presentation of awards July 29 at Hoz’s Pub.

"We had 20 entrants and we awarded the top 10," said contest organizer Deanna White. "We had to add categories there were so many great ideas."

Judging was done by Paul Beswetherick, Shirley Thompson, Carolyn Rodgers, Rose Lynch and Don MacLaurin. The judges began their work at 11:30 a.m. and didn’t finish until 6:30 p.m.

All entrants received prizes, donated by more than 25 local businesses and organizations.

The contest will return next summer.
