Whistler is like a "spring breaker" - fun, ready to have a good time and try something new.

So says Outside Magazine in its "What Ski Trip Are You" online review of ski resorts in North America, which singled out the World Ski and Snowboard Festival as a not-to-miss event

"We are definitely excited to be recognized by Outside Magazine for not only our great snow and variety of terrain, but also for our fun-loving party side, " said Whistler Blackcomb's Lauren Everest.

"Great aprs and nightlife are a huge part of ski and snowboard culture, and nobody celebrates that culture better than the World Ski and Snowboard Festival. Pair that amazing 10-day festival in April with the best spring skiing in North America and there is no wonder Whistler Blackcomb has earned the reputation of being the ultimate Spring Breaker."

Said Whistler mayor Nancy Wilhelm-Morden, “It’s great to be recognized for Whistler’s vibrant, youthful spirit. Celebration has always been an important aspect of Whistler culture, and we have significantly grown our festivals, events and animation offerings in recent years.

"Of course, Whistler offers guests more than just a festive atmosphere. I’m proud to say that Whistler has something for everyone, from families to athletes to adventure seekers to those looking for cultural experiences.”

Also named were Vail, Colorado, Mount Bachelor, Oregon and Arapahoe Basin, Colorado

Said Outside: "For ten days each April, Whistler Village goes nuts during the World Ski and Snowboard Festival. Competitions draw top skiers and boarders, while bands like Nas, Chaos, and the Swollen Members play free concerts that blur into all-night dance parties at every bar in the village.

"Of course April is also one of the best times of the year to ski in British Columbia. If there's fresh snow, as there was last year, head to the Harmony Zone on Whistler Mountain or the Crystal Zone on Blackcomb Mountain (the secret powder stash for locals). Afterward, decamp to the Crystal Lodge, right next to all the action at the base of the mountain (doubles from US$95).??"

The online review also named resorts in the Powder Fiend, Escapists, Ring Leaders and Family Adventurer categories.
