Whistler Golf Club improvements completed

New irrigation system making golf course 'greener'

A $1.2 million course improvement project at Whistler Golf Club hsas been completed on budget and two weeks ahead of schedule, reports Tourism Whistler.

In March 2007, Tourism Whistler announced the project, which included the installation of a state-of-the-art irrigation system and the introduction of a new hole for the 2007 season. Work continued on the course throughout the summer months, with minimal disruption to guests.

“Our new irrigation system is helping make the Whistler Golf Club greener in more ways than one,” said Alan Kristmanson, Director of Golf for the Whistler Golf Club. “The golf course has fully recovered from the renovation and is currently in great shape. Heading into the busy month of September, we’re very pleased to offer our guests an exceptional golf experience — while also using the latest technology to support our commitment to environmental stewardship.”

The project involved the installation of a leading-edge irrigation system which increases coverage by 300 irrigation heads and features technological innovations that decrease water consumption associated with the irrigation process.

In preparation for the system installation, a temporary new hole known as “Arnie’s Extra” was constructed last year and introduced this year for use while other holes were alternately closed during the improvement process. The creation of the par three Arnie’s Extra ensured that 18 holes of golf were available for play at the Whistler Golf Club throughout the duration of the project.

The Whistler Golf Club remains open and special rates are available to B.C. and Washington State residents by joining the Player’s Club free of charge.

As part of Golf Whistler, The Whistler Golf Club, along with Nicklaus North Golf Course, The Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club and Big Sky Golf and Country Club, will be participating in the upcoming Fall Family Links program. Following the success of the Family Links program held in May, Golf Whistler has introduced the Fall Family Links program Oct. 5-8, 2007. Play any of Whistler’s four championship courses for $69 including cart after 11 a.m. Golf Whistler’s Kids Play Free program will also still be in effect so juniors are free with any paid adult green fee. Additional juniors play for only $25.
