Whistler gymnasts in the medals

Strong showing for provincial athletes in well-attended event

The Whistler Gymnastics Club headed to its second meet of the season in Surrey over the weekend, facing the top clubs from around the Lower Mainland. It was a well-attended competition with over 40 participants in some categories.

In the Level 2 competition on Saturday, Kristi Poole-Adler won a gold medal on the beam. Frances Moody was third on the beam and sixth on the vault.

In the Level 1 competition on Sunday, Rebecca Flynn was eighth on the vault and second on bars to finish 12 th all around out of 44 athletes in the Provincial Level 1 Tyro category. Lenka Prochazka was 16 th on vault and eighth on beam.

Jasmin Budge and Desirae Smith finished out of the top-10 in all of the categories, but with personal best performances. Shannon McDonald, who is out with an injury, helped coach the team.

In the Provincial Level 1 Novice category, Annik Tetreault took the bronze all around medal after finishing second on the beam. Nicola Halliwell was fourth on the vault and bars, and 10 th on the floor to end the day ninth all around out of 30 athletes. Sonja D’Artois was 12 th on bars and Bianca Duval was 14 th on beam.

Spring registration for the club gets underway on March 15, with programs for students aged five to 18. Adult Gymnastics will also continue through the spring, starting on April 4, and running for eight weeks. For more information or registration call 604-902-FLIP (3547).
