Whistler gymnasts show off stuff at Bowen Island

The Whistler Gymnastics Club headed to the Zone 5 Championship held at Bowen Island last weekend, tuning up their routines before facing the top gymnastics clubs in the region at upcoming meets in Victoria and Kelowna.

In Level 2 Tyro local gymnasts dominated the podium. Keeley Wentzel placed first on vault and bars and second on beam and floor to place first all around. Katarina Kanjc was second on beam and floor and third on beam to place second all around. Carly Mann won gold on beam and bronze medals on vault and floor to place third. Cambria Willis placed first on floor and third on bars to place fourth. Teammates Charlotte Mahoney, Jessie Budge and Ellie Krasny were fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. Christina Saldat placed 10 th all around.

In Level 1 Tyro, Kalea McKranka Ranger was the top Whistler athlete in fourth place all around, with a silver medal on the floor. Caitlin MacConnachie was one spot back in fifth with bronze medals on beam and floor. Jamie Gomle was sixth with a silver medal on vault.

In Level 1 Argo 2001, Gabby Flynn placed first all around after winning gold medals in all four events. Lean Brownlie, Cassia Jean and Rory Ross-Kelly also cracked the top 10.

In Level 2 Novice, Ali Marriotte was first all around.

An interclub competition for recreational athletes took place, with Whistler bringing five athletes: Haley Jackson, Anabelle Ng, Victoria Sadat, Katie Faerge and Samantha Deally.

The only Provincial Level 3 gymnasts in the meet were from Whistler. Rebecca Flynn earned gold medals on bars, beam and floor and a silver on the vault to place first, while Nicola Halliwell won the vault and was second in the other events and the standings.

The meet in Victoria takes place May 14 to 16, and the Ogopogo Meet in Kelowna from June 4 to June 6.
