Whistler hockey player skates with the Canucks

Whistler player on ice for pre-game skate

By Andrew Mitchell

The Whistler Winterhawks Keesun MacPherson got to do what most kids can only dream of, and that was to lead the Vancouver Canucks onto the ice in a regulation NHL game.

MacPherson, who stayed with the team through the pre-anthem skate, also stood with the players for the national anthem, before taking his seat for the March 4 game against the Minnesota Wild.

The In-the Line Up contest, sponsored by McDonald’s, ran through the season with a new winner every few weeks. As well as joining the Canucks for their pre-anthem skate, winners also received four tickets to that night’s game, dinner for four at McDonald’s, a McDonald’s In the Line Up commemorative armband, a letter from Vancouver Canucks senior VP and general manager Dave Nonis and a CD of photos from the skate.

The Canucks won that game 5-4.

This wasn’t the only honour that MacPherson received this year. In March, MacPherson earned two assists in the Peewee championship game to help the Whistler Winterhawks capture the Lions Gate Banner for the season.
