Ten young athletes with disabilities will gather in Whistler this weekend to help plan how they are going to get to the podium for the 2010 Paralympic Games.

"What is great about this clinic coming up is that it is bringing all these athletes together in one place and they are going to be inspired by national team members," said Sian Blyth of the Whistler Adaptive Ski Program.

"These potential athletes are going to be exposed to some of the best training that they could receive."

The youths taking part in this weekend’s Athlete Development Clinic are drawn from three regional camps this season, which were held here, at Silver Star, and at Mount Washington.

They will work with Leslie Clarke, Head Coach of the Canadian Disabled Ski Team, and Phil Chew, coach of the B.C. Disabled Ski team, as well as national team athlete Brad Lennea, who calls Whistler his home.

The Disabled Skiers Association of B.C. and the Whistler Adaptive Ski Program have been working together with 2010 LegaciesNow on Game Plan, an initiative to help targeted athletes reach their goals in, or before 2010.

It is funded through LegaciesNow.

"This initiative has allowed us to encourage some of these young kids to think about something they could achieve that they had never ever dreamed of before," said Blyth.

"For a couple of these youths through this sport their whole lives are going to come together now."
