Whistler House of Switzerland opens to public Feb. 6

Mountain Club will be home for Swiss culture, festivities

 

The Swiss are inviting everyone to their house on Saturday, Feb. 6 to celebrate the sites, sounds and tastes of Switzerland.

In Whistler, The House of Switzerland will be in the Mountain Club in Town Plaza. The restaurant is being transformed into Swiss hospitality headquarters, a meeting point and social hub for the Swiss Olympic team, official hospitality house sponsors, partners and the public.

The Swiss host one of the most popular hospitality houses during the Olympics, and one of the few that is open to the public.

There will be Houses of Switzerland in Whistler and in Vancouver, at Bridges Restaurant on Granville Island. The Vancouver House of Switzerland will open Feb. 5. The opening of the House of Switzerland in Whistler will be from 4:40 to 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 6.

The houses will be open daily through to the last day of the Olympics, on Feb. 28. Activities and events will include medal ceremonies and celebrations for Swiss athletes, chocolate giveaways and demonstrations, daily giveaways from Swiss snowboard and streetwear clothing company Zirnstern, Swiss specialty dishes, Nespresso coffee, cheese samples, live music and other celebrations of Swiss culture.

The Swiss are also promising a special surprise on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14.

The House of Switzerland is organized under the project management of Presence Switzerland, an arm of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The overall cost of the public-private partnership for the two Houses of Switzerland is 2.1 million Swiss francs, of which 1.5 million is public money.
