Whistler Olympic Park events cancelled

Two events planned this weekend for Whistler Olympic Park, the Team Whistler Bear **** Crit on Saturday and the Callaghan Crusher trail run on Sunday, have been cancelled due to a lack of participation.

Team Whistler was forced to cancel their criterium in the Whistler Olympic Park this weekend due to a lack of registered riders. Despite a high turnout for road races around the province, this was the third criterium cancelled this year because of low numbers.

Organizer Tony Routley was disappointed, as the site of the criterium — the newly paved bus loop around Whistler Olympic Park — was a perfect venue for a race. Team Whistler was planning four events this weekend, a standard criterium, followed by three fun crit races.

The planned bike swap fundraiser for Symmetrics Cycling will go ahead at Routley’s house from 9 a.m. to noon at 2235 Aspen Drive.

The Callaghan Crusher, which offered 10 km and 20 km options to runners, was also cancelled. Unfortunately for organizers, most runners were already committed to the 5 Peaks race in Whistler that Saturday and did not sign up for this event.
