No matter what the outcome, Whistler will be hosting a party on July 2.
That’s the day the resort and Vancouver will find out if they have won the right to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
Win or lose celebrations will be on-going in the Village Square.
The festivities will kick of at 6:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Whistler Ski Club. And there will be lots of coffee too.
"We are expecting between 3,000 and 4,000 people," said Whistler’s 2010 Bid spokeswoman Maureen Douglas.
There will be locals and visitors and a bunch of Vancouverites who want to celebrate here she said.
The Vancouver celebrations slated for GM Place will be at capacity if everyone who signed up for free tickets shows up.
Here in Whistler, merry-makers will enjoy a parade of champions featuring past present and future athletes at many levels.
There will also be speeches from local, provincial and national dignitaries.
Everyone will get a 2010 pin and the first 1,000 people will get a hand towel celebrating the drive to host the Games.
There will also be tattoos for the little ones and lots of autograph signing and mini Canadian flags to wave.
The decision is expected around 9 a.m. our time.
Whistler’s Village Square will also boast a 9 foot by 12 foot big screen television to link the resort to Prague, Czech, where the International Olympic Committee will make their decision.
"We will be able to see the press conference and hear the announcement," said Douglas who is also hopeful that Whistler will be able to be seen and heard in Prague as well.
In fact every major television, radio and print media outlet will have people in the village covering the event.
"I expect that in the village and in General Motors Place you will be able to hear a pin drop during that announcement.
"Whistler has done very well in this whole process it has served as a catalyst for so may positive issues.
"That is why come the decision, whatever it is, we will be able to celebrate in this community."
Parties are also expected to be held in Salzburg, Austria, and Pyeongchang, Korea, the other two candidate cities.
The post-decision party in Whistler will kick off with a performance by a well-known local group.
"We will lead off with the Hairfarmers because they can take care of you," said Douglas.
"No matter how you are feeling they will brighten your day even more."
The Gordo Trio will also perform as will the Whistler Children’s Chorus and the Victoria Children’s Chorus, which performed for Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II during her B.C. visit last year.
"This is a day when the community will come together," said Douglas.
"After all this day could very well be a day history is made in the resort."
