The first round of artists has been announced for this summer's free Whistler Presents concert series.
Vancouver's beloved Dan Mangan, winner of two JUNO awards earlier this year, will headline Whistler Olympic Plaza (WOP) on Friday, June 29. Cuban-born Alex Cuba will play the following night. Both shows begin at 8:30 p.m.
On Canada Day (Sunday, June 1), legendary Canadian children's performer Fred Penner will play WOP at 2:30 p.m. That night, Vancouver bluessmith Jim Byrnes will play, along with the Sojounrers. The show begins at 8:30 p.m.
Wide Mouth Mason will play WOP the following weekend on Friday, July 6, while global fusion giants Pacifika and Vancouver's Jill Barber will play on Saturday, July 7. Again, shows will start at 8:30 p.m.
The Whistler Presents concert series is part of the RMOW's $2.685 million Festival, Events and Animation (FE&A) program, funded through the province's Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) program.
Also announced is the Bud Light Crankworx Concert Series at WOP, which is partially funded by the RMOW through the RMI funds. On Friday, August 10, the JUNO-winning Arkells will play, featuring an opening set by indie-dance quartet Young Empires. The following night, Vancouver indie-rockers Said the Whale will headline, with Jets Overhead playing an opening set. Both shows begin at 8 p.m.
