Whistler riders on podium at Western Open

Tyler Allison places third

This past weekend, Kicking Horse Resort and the infamous Mount 7 downhill line played host to a combined Western Open, Alberta Cup and B.C. Cup downhill race, with over 180 riders taking part.

The course starts off with white-knuckle descents down a narrow shale chute at the peak, dropping into a dry, loose series of trails through the forest where the race begins to pick up speed.

Whistler's Tyler Allison placed third out of 27 starters in Elite Men in 3:49.17, behind winner Ken Faubert and Dean Tennant.

Katerine Short of the Sunshine Coast, who had a solid showing at Crankworx recently, won the Elite Women's category in 4:49.79.

In Junior Expert, Squamish's Kip Shortreed placed fourth out of 18 finishers in 4:04.83.

In Under 17 Expert Men, Squamish's Jackson Lee was the top finisher in 3:57.56, while Whistler's Zander Geddes - only 15 - placed fourth, missing the podium by just 0.43 seconds.

Pemberton's Jesse Ballhausen was seventh in Senior Men.

In Under 15 Men, Whistler's Addison MacDonald placed second.

In Masters 30-Plus Women, Squamish's Veronika Voracek placed second in 6:06.42.
