Whistler riders top Mad Trapper B.C. Cup

It was another hot weekend for B.C. Cup racers as the annual Mad Trapper returned to Panorama last weekend for cross-country, downhill and four-cross events. As always, Whistler riders came away with their share of the hardware.

In the Under 15 cross-country race, Brandon Semenuk finished first overall, almost 40 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. Semenuk finished third and second in the first two races of the season, and is a couple of good races away from the provincial title.

James Crowe was fourth in the Junior Expert Men’s race, just over two minutes back of a place on the podium.

His father Eric Crowe had better luck in the Master 40-Plus Expert race, finishing just 41 seconds back of the leader to win a silver medal.

In the downhill Whistler’s Jeff Beatty led the way in the elite category for a trio of Whistler riders, finishing second in two minutes, 57.14 seconds, just 1.92 back of the leader.

He was trailed closely by Tyler Morland in third with a time of 2:57.33 and Chris Dewar in fourth with a 3:03.27. Adam Cook, who moved up a competitive category last weekend, was sixth in 3:04.15.

Brook Baker also proved she had the right stuff for the women’s elite category, finishing second in 3:52.62, just 0.56 seconds back of the lead.

Squamish rider Kyle Ritchie was third in the junior expert race.

The B.C. Cup Series continues on Aug. 1 with the Hemlock Mountain Bike Festival before wrapping up at Mount Washington with the Island Triple Throw Down.
