It was a long way to go, but worth the trip for a group of Whistler riders who went to Bromont, Quebec last weekend for the start of the Canada Cup racing series.

In the cross-country event, Whistler’s Will Routley finished ninth out of more than 60 riders among the Elite men, just 10 minutes, 17 seconds off the lead time of 2:20:06 set by Jesse Jakomait of Ontario.

Although he was racing in the Elite category, Routley’s results were also recorded in the Espoir, or under 23, category, where he finished fourth.

In the Masters 40 to 49 group, Whistler’s Tony Routley finished second out of 40 racers, 5:20 off the lead time.

In the downhill races, Whistler’s Jeff Beatty finished with a time of four minutes, 56.1 seconds in the elite category. This was Beatty’s first event as an Elite racer, after two years at the top as a junior expert.

He was 20 seconds back of the lead in 16 th place overall out of a field of 70 competitors.

The Canada Cup series continues from May 31 to June 21 with events at Hardwood Hills in Ontario.
