Whistler Runners first to Loop the Lakes

Whistler hoofers were among the fastest taking part in the annual Loop the Lakes 8K and 15K runs in Squamish this past Sunday, following a selection of single and doubletrack trails surrounding Alice Lake.

In the 8K category, Whistler’s Duncan Munro placed first overall in 32:03, followed by Jody Parry and Peter Drysdale. All three raced in the Under 40 category.

Melanie Day was the top Female Under 40 and top woman overall in 37:21, while also cracking the top-10 to place ninth overall.

Both Munro and Day raced the day before in the West Side Wheel Up.

Other Whistler athletes in the category were Caroline L’Heureux, fourth in the women’s Under 40 category, and Anik Champoux, 39 th overall.

In the 15K category, Mt. Currie’s Sean Wolfe was the fastest overall in 1:07:17. He also won the 40 to 49 division.

Mick Peatfield was third in the same age category and fifth overall in 1:13:59.

Lee Edwards was the top female in 1:21:15, as well as the first in the Female 40 to 49.

Sarah O’Byrne, who also raced the Wheel Up, placed 15 th overall and was second in the Under 40 category in 1:22:05.

Megan Wastle was 29 th overall and fifth in Female Under 40 in 1:03:05.

Robert Tan was 33 rd overall and ninth in men’s 40 to 49 in 1:32:49.

Francesca Cole was 40 th overall and 10 th in the women’s 40 to 49 race in 1:38:10.

Michael Gottschalk was 45 th in 1:41:11, as well as 11 th in men’s 40 to 49.

The Loop The Lakes races were the fourth events in the Sea 2 Sky Trail Running Series, which included the Comfortably Numb Trail Run, the Squamish Thunder, and the STORMY. Remaining events include the Rubble Creek Classic on Sept. 23 and the Lumpy’s Epic on Oct. 13.
