The Whistler Saints Football Club is recruiting for the 2010 season.

The team will hold it's first regular practice on Monday, Aug. 9 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Meadow Park. All kids are welcome to come out and practice.

The flag team will practice at the same time on Mondays and Wednesdays for the month of August. The Pee-Wee team will Practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays until the season ends in November.

The Saints will also hold a mini training camp on Wednesday, Aug. 18 and Thursday, Aug. 19 between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Meadow Park. The camp will teach the kids the basics of football, including positions and rules, basic skills and there will be a few scrimmages, so they get the feel of game play.

The practice is open to any boys and girls interested in learning about the game or if they are playing flag or tackle this year. It will be a good learning experience for the new kids and a good refresher and warm up for the boys moving up to play tackle. The camp is free.

The Saints are looking for boys and girls between the ages of six and nine who are interested in playing flag football this summer and fall.

Flag football is open to boys and girls and it's non-contact. Kids have a belt with Velcro flags attached. They are "tackled" when one of their flags is pulled off. Flag teams have 12 players and play nine on the field. The Flag Division uses a modified set of rules such as a smaller field and four downs. Each player plays a variety of offensive and defensive positions.

The Pee-Wee (10-12 year olds) and Minor (13-15 year olds) football teams are full contact tackle teams. Equipment for the players is provided by the league, which makes football an affordable options for parents.

The first league games commence on Sept. 5 and the season finishes in late November. It's a 10-game season and games are played on a rotating basis either in Squamish or Vancouver on Sundays.
