There is still time to nominate a new Whistler Citizen of the Year.

Created in 1969, the award is Whistler's longest standing celebration. It recognizes an outstanding community member who contributes significant volunteer time to enhancing the quality of life in Whistler. The individual also demonstrates extraordinary leadership and community service outside of employment, is well respected in the community and inspires others with their caring and positive attitude and spirit of cooperation.

Last year the award went to Brad Sills, a long-time Whistler resident, known to most as the head of Whistler Search and Rescue (WSAR) - he was acknowledged with a standing ovation as his win was announced.

The Community Foundation of Whistler, based on nominations from the public, selects the deserving citizen each year for the prestigious award.

This year announcement, like last year's, will be made at the Whistler Excellence Awards gala on June 21, 2013. This event is Whistler's premier business and community awards celebration, hosted by the Whistler Chamber of Commerce (WCC) in partnership with the Community Foundation of Whistler (CFOW), the Whistler Arts Council and the Whistler Centre for Sustainability. The event will also recognize those businesses and individuals who have achieved success in the areas of Service, Innovation and Sustainability, and who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the Arts, Business and Community Service.

If you have someone in mind to nominate consider that they should:

¥ Be recognized for their volunteer contributions; ¥ Volunteer their time, outside of the realm of their employment, in one or more activities or with one or more community organizations; ¥ Demonstrate a positive attitude; ¥ Work respectfully with others in the spirit of cooperation; ¥ Be an exemplary leader who displays honesty and integrity; ¥ Have made a lasting impact on a variety of community members or aspects of community life; ¥ Continuously inspire others to give to the community.

Submit the complete nomination form by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013 to Carol Coffey at ccoffey@whistlerfoundation.com or mail forms to PO Box 1184 Whistler, BC V0N 1B0.
