Whistler skaters qualify for championships

Gold, silver and bronze for six locals

The Whistler Skating Club spent last weekend in Chilliwack at the B.C. Coast Regional StarSKATE Championships, along with 35 other clubs from as far away as the Yukon and Hope. The event was a qualifier for the Pacific StarSKATE Championships, which includes four other regions in B.C. and the Yukon.

The Whistler skaters did well, with four athletes making the finals in the Junior Bronze Ladies 12 and Over category – Hilary Iles, Annelise Hutchison, Verena Facundo and Marielle Thompson. In the finals Iles took the silver medal and Hutchinson the bronze, qualifying them for the Pacific Championships in Vernon next February.

Other skaters also did well in non-qualifying catetgories. Emily Nakajima won a gold and Rebekah Robertson silver in the Pre-Preliminary Ladies 10 and Under category.
